Bible Note: 1 Peter 4:8 addresses the comment: "Makes me wonder if as sinful humans can we truly love our brother." You're welcome. Yes, 1 John 4:21 contains an important commandment and the reasoning found in the preceding verse is interesting: 1 John 4:20 (The Amplified Bible) "If any one says, I love God, and (detests, abominates) hates his brother [in Christ], he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God Whom he has not seen." Note how the Bible helps us to appreciate the power of love in our dealings with each other in 1 Peter 4:8 (The Amplified Bible) "Above all things have intense and unfailing love for one another, for love covers a multitude of sins - forgives and disregards the offenses of others." The latter part of this verse shows that there will be bumps in the road in our dealings with each other (due to imperfection), but the love displayed in Christ's congregations will help even us sinful humans to show at the least, agape [principle] love. |
