AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ecclesiastes 1:18 For in much [human] wisdom there is much displeasure and exasperation; increasing knowledge increases sorrow. |
Bible Question: When Adam ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil,he started to increase sorrow to mankind.Did he lost truth, when he ate from the tree of knowledge or did he GOT the knowledge? Is knowledge the truth? |
Bible Answer: Resurrectioner, Qohelet in Ecclesiastes 1:16 affirms that his heart has understood great wisdom and knowledge, but concludes in v. 18 that in wisdom is grief and in knowledge sorrow. These things and many others Solomon found to be vanity of vanities, all of them vanity, like chasing after the wind. The key verse of Ecclesiastes is 12:7. Having tasted of all life had to offer a man of wealth and power, for he had both, Solomon concluded "Fear God and keep His commandments, for this is the whole (duty) of man." Adam and Eve found neither truth nor wisdom in disobeying God. They found out -- it could be said they gained the knowledge -- that "the soul who sins shall die." (Ezekiel 18:4). --Hank |
