Subject: Where does the Bible say only increase? |
Bible Note: Colin, not to strive on this, but … by reading what it says rather than listening to some preacher who reads and speculates … one draws many truths from His Word. Taking the whole chapter in question – verse by verse – you can ONLY come to the same conclusion. Verse 11 – The four kings seized ALL THE GOODS of Sodom and Gomorrah and all their food; and they went away. Verse 12 – They also carried off Abram’s nephew Lot and his POSSESSIONS, since he was living in Sodom. Are you following the storyline so far? The looters have seized ALL THE GOODS, and Lot’s POSSESSIONS. Verse 16 – He (Abram) recovered ALL THE GOODS … the goods that the looters are said to have seized … AND BROUGHT back his relative Lot AND his possessions. Are you still following the message God has laid out? All the goods seized in Sodom AND on top of ALL THE GOODS, Lot’s possessions. Notice the two separate listings of GOODS and possessions. The goods were stolen from who knows who or how many citizens of Sodom. The possessions refer to separate things all belonging to Lot. Verse 20 The Abram gave him a tenth of everything. Everything? Everything that he owned that was way back home? Do you honestly believe that? Neither does anyone else who takes the time to read carefully His Word. Next verse, The king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give the people to me and take THE GOODS for yourself. What GOODS? The goods that were left over from the tithe he gave. That’s when Abram talked about not accepting anything that belongs to them, so they couldn’t say those people made Abram rich. However, notice Abram allowed some of the men who routed the looters with him to accept some of the GOODS. If I may quote you, my friend, “I've answered your post as best I can”. T’oma |
