Bible Question: Hello! Right now, I'm probably at the lowest point in my life! Therefore, I have no choice but to trust God! I had been waiting about 1 yr to get hired for my dream job, once a position became available. Well, a few wks ago my friend sent me a text message stating that the boss decided to hire an LPN for the position. I refused to give up on that job, so I prayed and sowed a seed believing God would touch the boss heart so he could hire me. Well, that position was already filled, but now he is in the process of creating another position real soon, and I was told by my friend to be prepared because that position will be mine. My question is.........Did I move the hand of God because I sowed that seed in faith? Was it my faith alone, or was it the seed I sowed? Do I need to sow a seed everytime I want God to do something for me? |
Bible Answer: Dear jesus1km :: Yours is an unusual user screen name. The curiosity in me nudges me to ask what it means. :-) ..... Ma'am, you ask a question which also appears curious: "Do I need to sow seed every time I want God to do something for me?" Your question has the ear-marks of sincerity, but it sounds much more like the kind of verbiage the false word-faith teachers use on the television than anything God says in His word! God is not in the business of swapping favors for seed. The Bible teaches nothing of the sort. The very clear and unmistakable but patently unbiblical implication with which the seed-faith TV hucksters pander to the gullible is that human beings can bargain with God: so much seed-faith money (translation: money sent to the false teachers to line their purses) for so much divine blessing. ...... No, dear heart, you do not need to sow a seed every time you want God to do something for you. The Bible never teaches anything of the sort. The biblical way to approach God's throne of grace is through prayer, not 'seed-faith' money: "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God" (Philippians 4:6). ...... May I offer a suggestion? By means of a concordance or a topical Bible, search for and study all that the Bible has to teach you about prayer, its importance, and how to engage in it. You might try using the "Get Bible Text" resource at the right of this page, which our sponsers, the Lockman Foundation, have graciously provided for our use. Merely type in such words as pray, or prayer, and you're on your way! Welcome to this forum. I note that in only two days you've entered some 40 posts. That's being prolific indeed. As you already doubtlessly have discovered, this is a web site dedicated exclusively to Bible study and to the concept embodied in the phrase sola scriptura, and it is hoped that you will find such an endeavor both pleasant and profitable to you as you grow in the Christian faith. --Hank |
