NASB | Proverbs 26:10 Like an archer who wounds everyone, So is he who hires a fool or who hires those who pass by. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Proverbs 26:10 Like a [careless] archer who [shoots arrows wildly and] wounds everyone, So is he who hires a fool or those who [by chance just] pass by. |
Bible Question:
Comparing the NASB vs. the KJV for Prov. 26:10, there seems to be a serious discrepancy: NASB talks about an archer who wounds everyone being like a person that hires a fool or passers-by; but KJV says "The great God that formed all things both rewards the fool, and rewards transgressors". Why are these so different, when they're both based on the same original text? |
Bible Answer: Interesting in deed. Proverbs 26:10 (KJV) 10 The great God that formed all things both rewardeth the fool, and rewardeth transgressors. Proverbs 26:10 (NKJV) 10 The great God who formed everything Gives the fool his hire and the transgressor his wages. Proverbs 26:10 (NASB) 10 Like an archer who wounds everyone, So is he who hires a fool or who hires those who pass by. Proverbs 26:10 (NLT) 10 An employer who hires a fool or a bystander is like an archer who shoots at random. My New King James has a notation that says, The Hebrew here is very difficult to understand and modern translators differ greatly. The comments in the Net Bible are very interesting on this. It contains too many special characters to allow me to post it here. Go to site https://net.bible.org then search on Proverbs 10:26 and once there click Note which will be at the top of the block to your right. |
