AMPLIFIED 2015 | Proverbs 24:12 If you [claim ignorance and] say, "See, we did not know this," Does He not consider it who weighs and examines the hearts and their motives? And does He not know it who guards your life and keeps your soul? And will He not repay [you and] every man according to his works? |
Subject: What about those who never hear gospel? |
Bible Note: Dear Podzl, Your initial answer is copied below Answer: Does he go to hell? Who can say? But, Pr 24:12 supports the idea that God considers ALL things in judgement of our works. Jer 32:40 supports the idea that the word of God is in the heart of us all. Whether we listen to it is another matter entirely. Ro 1:19-20 tells that there is no excuse for the non-belief in the existence of God. Meditating on these three scripture alone, one can come to a myriad of conclusions about the condition of the soul of one who has not heard the gospel of Jesus Christ, but the bottom line is that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No man can come to the father except through Him, but does this mean that an unhearing native is damned to hell? My God is the most merciful, holy one of Israel and as such, considers all things. But to answer your question on its face, no he does not go to hell, although, the skeptic who posed the question may be another story. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Prov 24:12 If you say, "See, we did not know this," Does He not consider it who weighs the hearts? And does He not know it who keeps your soul? And will He not render to man according to his work? My question is does Proverbs 24:12 really support salvation apart from the gospel? Rather than allow it to remain isolated from the rest of Scripture, our understanding may benefit from additional light. Ipresume that tthe last line of the proverb is the hook upon which you are hanging your arguement. By itself, 24:12 seems to offer hope to the hopeless providing their works are acceptable to Him. The problem arises when we learn what a hopeless case, those who's hope for heaven is based on works, face. Rom 3:20 because by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified in His sight; for through the Law comes the knowledge of sin. --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Jer 32:40 supports the idea that the word of God is in the heart of us all. Whether we listen to it is another matter entirely." ----------------------------------------------- Jer 32:40 "I will make an everlasting covenant with them that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; and I will put the fear of Me in their hearts so that they will not turn away from Me. To whom does "them" refer? "the sons of Israel and the sons of Judah ..." It does not refer to mankind at-large! ---------------------------------------------------- " the bottom line is that Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No man can come to the father except through Him, but does this mean that an unhearing native is damned to hell? " ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The natural state of man (prior to grace) is one of damnation. He is born, lives and dies a wicked sinner, and continues to hate his Maker throughout eterenity. He is damned for his wicked sinning, not because he never heard (or even rejected) the gospel. 1 Cor 2:14 But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised. Salvation is not something that is given to all men and does not rest upon their decision to accept or reject it. It that was the case, all would reject it. NO; Salvation is a gift which He gives to those whom He foreknew, even, before creation itself. Rom 8:29 For those whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, so that He would be the firstborn among many brethren; 2 Rom 11:2 God has not rejected His people whom He foreknew. Or do you not know what the Scripture says in the passage about Elijah, how he pleads with God against Israel? I hope this helps, John Reformed |
