Bible Question:
As a professional speaker I focus on the benefits that laughter and a sense of humour bring to people. I have been asked by our minister to present the laughter theme within the context of a sermon, but so far haven't been able to find a lot of refereces in the Bible relating to laughter. Laughter is used several times in a cynical sense where people are using laughter to mock others, and as such it is frowned upon. Although Jesus had to deal with many serious issues during his short life, I can't help but believe that he possessed a good sense of humour, and that he wanted us to enjoy a happy life. Any suggestiongs of such Biblical references would be greatly appreciated. This approach was prompted after I made reference to a painting of Jesus in which he is smiling, (or perhaps, laughing) which hangs in our minister's office. Which brings up another point: do you know where I can go to download such a picture, or order a hard copy? Any help will be greatfully appreciated. Blessings, Stu Black |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Gen 17:17, 18:12-13, 21:6; Psa 126:2; Pro 15:13,15, 17:22; Ecc 3:4; Phi 1:4 ... Stu Black, Greetings and welcome, Here are some of the verses on good laughter. However, there is no in the Biblical precedent for unbridled or holy laughter among God's people, as some teach today. Remember that all the pictures of Jesus are what people think He looked like. Hope this helps, Searcher |
