Subject: Spare the rod, spoil the child |
Bible Note: Where does it say anywhere in the Bible to "hit or strike" a child? This is what I want to know. Will you please explain to me why some Christians believe that striking or hitting a child is what God intends by disciplining our children? I do not recall anywhere in the New Testament Jesus teaching anyone to hit his/her children or that He Himself hit anyone. In some research and prayer about this topic, The Holy Spirit told me that "rod" also means "staff" and that staffs were used to guide. Yes, I believe strongly that I am to discipline my children--am re-reading Elisabeth Elliott's "Discipline: The Glad Surrender" currently--but I would think that we should treat our children as disciples, teaching them in the ways of our Lord. |
