Subject: Is "tough love" biblical? |
Bible Note: Hi, Chicks! ...truly you are caught between a rock and a hard place! Your son is old enough to disobey you; yet he is too immature to realize that he is harming himself (both spiritually and physically)... From the informationg offered I can say that your son has been enabled--for too many years society (TV families like the Simpson, 7th Heaven, etc) has been training children to walk the path of egocentrism, irresponsibility, unaccountability, and apathy! In Christ, you are bound for life to those around your, specially if they are family relations... but there comes a time when you must let go... when all you can do is pray and teach through love, Christ's Love, (1 Corinthians 13:4-8), while remembering that God demands a certain behavior from us... enabling others to indulge in destructive behavior is not part of God's rendering of love! Just as God allows us to fail, and He lovingly accepts us when we,realizing our errors, return to Him (Luke 15:11-32), so should you love your son... not enabling him to continue in a destructive path, but praying, preaching with love, assiting when he is taking steps towards recovery (alcohol, drugs, school, job, God)... Remember also that our job in the Lord is to warn the people not to force them to subject their wills to the Lord! (Ezekiel 33:2-9) God Bless! Angel |
