Bible Question: My aunt is having serious financial issues due to neglect and irresponsibility about her finances. Basically she has multiple mortgages and high debt, and will most likely have to sell her house. She and her husband do not want to do this, for they have gone through it before a few years ago. My father is debating on whether or not to help them by lending money, he believes that they will never learn anything if he helps and they will just get in a hole again. I was wondering what the bible says about helping your family financially. Thank you for any help you can offer. |
Bible Answer: 1 Tim 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever. Is 58:6 "Is this not the fast which I choose, To loosen the bonds of wickedness, To undo the bands of the yoke, And to let the oppressed go free And break every yoke? Is 58:7 "Is it not to divide your bread with the hungry And bring the homeless poor into the house; When you see the naked, to cover him; And not to hide yourself from your own flesh? Mark 7:9 He was also saying to them, "You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition. Mark 7:10 "For Moses said, 'HONOR YOUR FATHER AND YOUR MOTHER'; and, 'HE WHO SPEAKS EVIL OF FATHER OR MOTHER, IS TO BE PUT TO DEATH'; Mark 7:11 but you say, 'If a man says to his father or his mother, whatever I have that would help you is Corban (that is to say, given to God),' Mark 7:12 you no longer permit him to do anything for his father or his mother; Mark 7:13 thus invalidating the word of God by your tradition which you have handed down; and you do many things such as that." Prov 6:1 My son, if you have become surety for your neighbor, Have given a pledge for a stranger, Prov 6:2 If you have been snared with the words of your mouth, Have been caught with the words of your mouth, Prov 6:3 Do this then, my son, and deliver yourself; Since you have come into the hand of your neighbor, Go, humble yourself, and importune your neighbor. Prov 6:4 Give no sleep to your eyes, Nor slumber to your eyelids; Prov 6:5 Deliver yourself like a gazelle from the hunter's hand And like a bird from the hand of the fowler. Prov 19:19 A man of great anger will bear the penalty, For if you rescue him, you will only have to do it again. Prov 30:15a The leech has two daughters, "Give," "Give." Mal 4:5 "Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the LORD. Mal 4:6 "He will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children and the hearts of the children to their fathers, so that I will not come and smite the land with a curse." |
