Bible Question: In Proverbs 11:13 what does it mean to be a talebearer? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Glorify! Proverbs 11:13 "Whoever goes about slandering reveals secrets, but he who is trustworthy in spirit keeps a thing covered." [ESV] "11:13 talebearer. This depicts someone who is a peddler in scandal, who speaks words deliberately intended to harm rather than merely unguarded speech (cf. Lev. 19:16)." (1) "11:13 talebearer. A malicious slanderer, not merely one who is indiscreet. See also 16:28; 18:8; 26:20,22." (2) "11:13: Secrets, i.e. confidences." (3) I hope that these provide a bit of depth in explanation! - Makarios (1) MacArthur Study Bible, 1997, Word Publishing, John MacArthur, Author and General Editor (2) Ryrie Study Bible Expanded Edition, 1995, The Moody Bible Institute of Chicago, Charles Caldwell Ryrie, Th.D., Ph.D. (3) The Oxford Annotated Bible with the Apocrypha, 1965, Oxford University Press, Inc., Herbert G.
