Bible Question:
Understanding the "she" in Proverbs 1:20. And contrast between pagan wisdom and true wisdom. Why do they say pagan.?? I use the Quest study bible and I have a reference note that says. Wisdom not just as an idea but as a person. Some think a woman because in the Hebrew language the word for Wisdom is feminine. Others believe that since the aim of this book is to train young people, a woman- like a nurturing mother, would make a lasting impression on tender minds. Still others point to a pagan goddess of education and training. suggesting that the writer may have borrowed similar terms to contrast true wisdom with pagan wisdom. I would appreciate if someone could help me. Thanks :) |
Bible Answer: In the International Inductive Study Bible, NASB published by Harvest House there is a Section on Figures of Speech which explains their use. It says and I quote "In personification an object is given characteristics or attributes that belong to people - for example, when the trees clap their hands and the mountains sing for joy (Isaiah 55:12) For further explanation of your question on the features of the Quest study bible you might submit your question to the Editorial vice-president found on the Acknowledgements page. |
