Bible Answer: Hi, ganointed... Welcome to the forum! Moses was pasturing the flock that belonged to his father-in-law, Jethro (Exodus 3:1). A staff -- as mentioned in vv4:1-5 -- used to be known as a "pastoral crook." It was standard, multi-purpose equipment for livestock herders of the day. In that time of history -- and for a long time after -- the consumers of a product were generally also the producers of that product.
