Bible Question:
Exodus 4:25-26: Why did Zipporah perform the circumcision, when Genesis 17:12 said it was to be done when the child is 8 days old and had assumed it was done by the male member of the family (Abraham performed it in Genesis where the word is first used)? Why did she call Moses "a bridegoom of blood to me" after she had done this thing? |
Bible Answer: Scripture ... Gen 17:9-14, 23-27, 21:4, 25:2; Exo 2:15, 4:25-26 .. mare4christ, While the one who is performing the circumcision is not mentioned in the commned (Gen 17:9-14), nor who did it that day (vv 23-27), Abraham circumcisied Isaac (21:4). Since Zipporah was from the line of Abraham through Midian (25:2, Exo 2:15), she may have known about circumcision on the eigth day. When Zipporah said "a bridegoom of blood to me" ... she may have reminding her bridegoom of his neglect and since he was too sick, she had to do it. Maybe even as a form of counsel. The Living Bible says, "You are indeed a bridegroom of blood to me." |
