Bible Question: What became of Moses rod? |
Bible Answer: Greetings prayon! Nelson's NKJV Study Bible suggests, "God turned Moses' rod- probably a long wooden pole with the familiar shepherd's crook at one end- into a snake to demonstrate the reality of His power and presence during Moses' coming mission." Moses used this very same rod to carry out the miracles of God throughout Exodus, and it became known as 'the rod of God'.. In Numbers 20:9, we see Moses taking this very same rod that had been 'before the LORD', and he uses it to strike the rock in a fit of rage. After this episode, the rod of Moses or this particular rod is not mentioned specifically in scripture, but is alluded to metaphorically and by illustration in other places of scripture. Here's my own opinion of what happened to the rod: It stayed within the tabernacle of the Lord with the Ark and under the care of the Levites. Moses may have been filled with regret or remorse in his disobedience to the Lord and the Lord's strict punishment, thus deciding upon himself not to use the 'rod of God' ever again because of the fateful consequences of his anger. That, however, is my own interpretation. :) |
