Bible Question: Can someone tell me the significance of the pomegranates, as it relates to Aaron's robe, when alternated with golden bells? The colors being blue, purple, and scarlet I'm sure are significant of truth, royalty, and blood respectively (all aspects of Christ), but what of the shape of the pomegranate itself? Although there are several scripture references, Exodus 28:33 stands out to me. |
Bible Answer: Greetings SpreadWord! Here is the entry for 'Pomegranates' from the Easton Bible Dictionary... "Pomegranate i.e., "grained apple" (pomum granatum), Heb. rimmon. Common in Egypt (Num_20:5) and Palestine (Num_13:23; Deu_8:8). The Romans called it Punicum malum, i.e., Carthaginian apple, because they received it from Carthage. It belongs to the myrtle family of trees. The withering of the pomegranate tree is mentioned among the judgments of God (Joe_1:12). It is frequently mentioned in the Song of Solomon (Son_4:3, Son_4:13, etc.). The skirt of the high priest's blue robe and ephod was adorned with the representation of pomegranates, alternating with golden bells (Exo_28:33-34), as also were the "chapiters upon the two pillars" (1Ki_7:20) which "stood before the house." - Nolan |
