This is a question for all you hebrew scholars. On the High preists breastplate are twelve gem stones.Each stone represents one of the twelve tribes. My question is this,Which stones represent which tribe and what do they signify? Especially the white one and the clear one. In Christ, lionheart. |
Bible Answer: Dear Lionheart, According to the Jerusalem Targum: Row one: Reuben, Simeon, Levi Row two: Judah, Issachar, Zebulun Row three: Dan, Naphtali, Gad Row four: Zebulon, Ephraim, Benjamin I'm uncertain why it was Ephraim and not Manasseh and Ephraim, but perhaps Manasseh was implied. There are Jewish superstitions about the "powers" of these kinds of stones. There are, apparently, reasons for associating the types of stones with the individual tribes, but I'm not sure that those reasons can be stated exhaustively and conclusively.
