Subject: sex leading to marriage? |
Bible Note: Greetings Justme, Quite possible. This is a very difficult situation to give a clear cut, definitive answer to, and one answer cannot justify every single case in point.. There is Exodus 22:16, there is Matthew 19:10, there is 2 Cor. 6:14, etc, etc.. I could find myself arguing this either way - for the marriage or not for the marriage.. A marriage between a non-believer and believer would have problems with conforming to Ephesians 5:21-33, that is for sure, since that passage explains the roles of the husbands and wives in a Christian point of view. Perhaps we should approach the subject of unbelievers/believers in the spirit of 1 Cor. 7:10-16, if the couple insist on being together, in spite of 2 Cor. 6:14.. Therefore, if an unbeliever and believer agree to join together in marriage, then they must understand fully the implications of what they are getting themselves into - both the believer and unbeliever. The believer is still bound to the Lord, and to worship the Lord. But if the unbelieving partner separates, then let it be so (1 Cor. 7:15). Both partners need to understand that their marriage could very well be subject to divorce, and that risk needs to be fully understood, since divorce is better to preserve peace if the unbelieving spouse cannot tolerate the partner's faith. The bond of marriage is broken only by death (Rom. 7:2), adultery (Matt. 19:9), or an unbeliever's leaving. Blessings to you, Makarios |
