NASB | Exodus 19:24 Then the LORD said to him, "Go down and come up again, you and Aaron with you; but do not let the priests and the people break through to come up to the LORD, or He will break forth upon them." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Exodus 19:24 Then the LORD said to him, "Go down and come up again, you and Aaron with you; but do not let the priests and the people break through [the barriers] to come up to the LORD, or He will break forth [in judgment] against them [and destroy them]." |
Bible Question: The word "break" is used twice here --- once of the people, once of God. The same word is used several times in the chapter. Can someone shed light on this interesting text? |
Bible Answer: When I run into confusing terms or sentence structure like this I turn to the NLT to see if it helps. In this case I believe it will. Exodus 19:24 (NLT) 24 But the LORD said, "Go down anyway and bring Aaron back with you. In the meantime, do not let the priests or the people cross the boundaries to come up here. If they do, I will punish them." EdB |
