Bible Question: I was taught that Worship is not just on Sunday. It is an everyday rhythm and totality of Christian life. How can we live/worhsip in holiness everyday? Everyone know even Christian may sin(not by intention) in daily life? Shall we give up worship? |
Bible Answer: Word Study ... worship - shachah, c@gid, proskuneo ... Ivory313, greetings, It first depends on how you define worship ... The primary Hebrew word, for "worship", shachah, is a powerful one. It describes the physical act of actually prostrating yourself on the floor before a sovereign, someone who has complete control over you. It is translated bow, homage, prostrate, worship, weighs it down or a similar words. Daniel wrote in Aramaic. The word he used, 12 times, is c@gid, pronounces segeed. It is translated to prostrate one-self, do homage, worship. It is related to the Hebrew cagad The primary Greek word is proskuneo. It means to kiss the hand to (towards) one, in token of reverence. Westerns may not understand this. It is not a romantic or family kiss. I doubt many of us kiss with reverence, even if we kiss the ring of the Pope. There were ancients that kissed their idols. I do not see worship as "everyday rhythm and totality of Christian life" ... but a separate specific time. It can be done daily. It is not required to go to church to worship. This is based on what Jesus told the Samaritain woman in John 4. BTW each time worship is seen, it is the Greek word proskuneo. Worship by phyiscally bowing low before God. We need to mentally bow before Him, as one who has absolute control over our lives. We do this spiritually, as well. Study the worship scenes in Revelation and practice today.
