Bible Question: What are the Hebrew and Greek definitions of "glory"? How are they similar and different? Thanks in advance for any help. |
Bible Answer: Hi, Terry... The Hebrew word for glory is kabod, meaning weighty or copious splendor. The Greek word for glory is dokeo, meaning manifest/clear, praiseworthy honor. From the latter we get our modern word doxology. Both words carry the gist of what we understand by the word glory. I am not, however, sufficiently knowledgeable of the two languages to compare their connotations. I'll check later today with one or two systematic theologies. I'm certain that they will render light on the question. In Him, Doc |
