Bible Question: Tim, I would like to know what is meant by "the secret place" or "the shelter" of the almighty. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Fire! Thanks for the clarification! I wasn't sure what you were asking before! :-) I've done that before! Given the context of the Psalm, I would say that the shelter is simply a methaphor for God Himself, or at least His protection. Notice that all the terms in the Psalm describe structures or things which provide shelter or comfort. * A shelter in v. 1. * A shadow in v. 1. * A refuge in v. 2. * A fortress in v. 2. * A covering in v. 4. * A shield in v. 4. * A rampart in v.4. * A dwelling in v. 9. * A refuge in v. 9. In fact, verse 9 even identifies the dwelling as the Most High! So, I think that the dwelling place of the Most High is simply a poetic way of saying that I live under His protection and care. All of the other words add to the visual picture. He covers me like a mother hen covers her chicks. He is my shield. He is my fortress, ect.... I hope this helps! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
