NASB | Psalm 90:10 As for the days of our life, they contain seventy years, Or if due to strength, eighty years, Yet their pride is but labor and sorrow; For soon it is gone and we fly away. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Psalm 90:10 The days of our life are seventy years-- Or even, if because of strength, eighty years; Yet their pride [in additional years] is only labor and sorrow, For it is soon gone and we fly away. |
Bible Question: I was talking to my sister today and she said that the bible says that if you die before 70, then it wasn't God's Will. I am confused she also made a reference to a well-known preacher refering to that as well. I for one have not heard such a thing, so I am trying to just ask. She is implying that we choose how long we live. |
Bible Answer: No, we do not choose how long we live. And no, the Bible doesn't say that if you die before 70, then it wasn't God's will. That's sheer nonsense. Also, I would like to know what passage of Scripture (book, chapter and verse) could possibly be interpreted to mean such a thing? For that matter, if it were true that if you die before 70 it wasn't God's will, then Jesus, Stephen, James and many more apostles and prophets were not in harmony with the will of God. Further, if God wills (decrees) that a thing be done, it shall be done. I hope we don't hear any more about the sovereignty of man or the sovereignty of Satan. God and God alone is sovereign.
