Bible Question: is there a verse in the Bible that says that the expediency of life is 70 years? |
Bible Answer: I have to agree with Azure's good answer but I just gotta add some little something. We see from the first few chapters of Genesis that men back then lived several hundred years yet we've all known of many people who don't even live through maturity or even puberty. So that plus the fact there's no mention of any promise from God of any certain age for us mankind. It seems almost ironic as Azure alludes that Moses wrote this Psalm and then lived almost twice this timeframe. I'm thinking the two most powerful bits of advice are as follows... 1 Thes 5:1 But concerning the times and the seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you. 2 FOR YOU YOURSELVES KNOW PERFECTLY THAT THE DAY OF THE LORD SO COMES AS A THIEF IN THE NIGHT. 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. 4 But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. Ja 4:13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, spend a year there, buy and sell, and make a profit”; 14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. FOR WHAT IS YOUR LIFE? IT IS EVEN A VAPOR THAT APPEARS FOR A LITTLE TIME AND THEN VANISHES AWAY. 15 Instead you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we shall live and do this or that.” 16 But now you boast in your arrogance. All such boasting is evil. (All caps above mine for emphasis.) We all need to be prepared to meet the Lord and His subsequent Judgment Day in the blink of an eye as He suggested in His Parable... Matt 25:11 “Afterward the other virgins came also, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open to us!’ 12 But he answered and said, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, I do not know you.’ 13 “Watch therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour in which the Son of Man is coming."
