Bible Question: Not going to church will not keep me from going to heaven. Where in the bible is this statement confirmed true and or false? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Disciple Dave! David declared that he was glad to "go into the house of the LORD" for worship (Psalm 122:1). Hebrews 10:25 specially instructs us not to forsake "our own assembling together." The Christian life as described in Scripture is to be lived within the context of the family of God and not in isolation (Ephesians 3:14,15; Acts 2). It is in attending church that we become equipped for the work of ministry (Ephesians 4:12-16). Further, it is within the context of attending church that we can receive the Lord's Supper (1 Corinthians 11:23-26). The Bible knows nothing of a "lone ranger Christian." Let me say it again: The Bible knows nothing of a "lone ranger Christian." Many logs burning together burn very brightly (Psalm 89:7), but when a log falls off to the side, the embers quickly die out (Ephesians 2:19; 1 Thessalonians 5:10,11; 1 Peter 3:8). In the great assembly, we will bless the Lord (Psalm 26:12; 89:5; 107:32). So, the answer is that you are not in danger of losing your salvation by just not going to church since the Bible does not give a command that you absolutely must go to church to keep your salvation. But the Bible does give numerous exhortations and examples (such as Hebrews 10:25) that show that by attending church, we can encourage each other and continue to grow spiritually, as we should. So let us act in the spirit of David by being glad to enter into the house of the LORD for worship! Blessings to you, Makarios |
