Bible Note: Hi Steve, Do you want to look at some Scriptures with me? There are fifteen verses that have the word "(h)Helper" translated in the NASB. Eight are in the Old Testament. Personally, I only have Psalm 54:4 with a capitalized "Helper". I have Helper penciled in for that verse because I see it as an excellent match with John 14:16. Psalm 54:4, NKJ, "Behold, God is my **Helper; the Lord is with those who uphold my life." John 14:16, "And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another **Helper, that He may be with you forever." The Holy Spirit is recognized in the New Testament as the Helper. He is One called alongside to help. Jesus our Helper leaves and He sends the Holy Spirit to us. John 16:7, "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper shall not come to you; but if **I go, I will send Him to you." I compare/contrast Psalm 54:4, "Behold, God is my **Helper" and Hebrews 13:6, "The Lord is my **Helper". The Scripture reference for Hebrews 13:6 is Psalm 118:6. Psalm 118:5, "From my distress I called upon the **Lord; The Lord answered me and set me in a large place. 6 The Lord is for me; I will not fear; What can man do to me?" Hebrews 13:6, "so that we confidently say, "The Lord is my **Helper, I will not be afraid. What shall man do to me?" The **stars are for the comparisons that I see. From the heart, Ray |
