NASB | Psalm 5:5 The boastful shall not stand before Your eyes; You hate all who do iniquity. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Psalm 5:5 The boastful and the arrogant will not stand in Your sight; You hate all who do evil. |
Bible Question:
In Psalms 5:5 it says "The arrogant cannot stand in your presence; you hate all who do wrong." Does God really hate people? I thought it was supposed to go "hate the sin, love the sinner" ??? |
Bible Answer: Hello andreaparker, Look at the context of the verse (from ESV): 4 For you are not a God who delights in wickedness; evil may not dwell with you. 5 The boastful shall not stand before your eyes; you hate all evildoers. 6 You destroy those who speak lies; the Lord abhors the bloodthirsty and deceitful man. Notice the descriptors: boastful, liars, bloodthirsty, deceitful. This is not your typical "man on the street" who sins without thinking. This is describing the one who who goes out of his way to do wickedness and is proud of it. That's who God hates. Steve |
