Bible Question:
Saints, I've been studying this verse and have found no reference verses for "When You said, "Seek My Face" I looked in the NASB, NKJV, and the KJV. Also, looked in my concordance under "seek" and "face" with no luck. If any of you know of any verses that relate to this passage of Scripture and the command of the Lord to seek His face, please refer me to them. hidden in Christ, Lissa |
Bible Answer: Lissa, Here is a brief study on the topic of seeking God: Heb 11:6 6And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. NAS Two prerequsities of Faith: Belief and that God rewards those who seek Him. How do we believe? Rom 10:16-18 17So faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. NAS Bible proofs demonstrate to us that God’s word is true. Once we know it is true, we have a decision to make; to seek God or not. Why do we seek God? God made us that way: Acts 17:24-28 24"The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; 25neither is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all life and breath and all things; 26and He made from one, every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times, and the boundaries of their habitation, 27that they should seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; 28for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said,' For we also are His offspring.' NAS Why must we seek God to receive His reward? God desires His creation to choose Him! OT examples: Ex 32:25-27 25Now when Moses saw that the people were out of control-- for Aaron had let them get out of control to be a derision among their enemies-- 26then Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, "Whoever is for the LORD, come to me!" And all the sons of Levi gathered together to him. 27And he said to them, "Thus says the LORD, the God of Israel, 'Every man of you put his sword upon his thigh, and go back and forth from gate to gate in the camp, and kill every man his brother, and every man his friend, and every man his neighbor.'" NAS Josh 24:14 15And if it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the LORD, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served which were beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." NAS God tells us to seek Him: 1 Chron 16:11 11Seek the LORD and His strength; Seek His face continually. NAS And Prov 8:17 17"I love those who love me; And those who diligently seek me will find me. NAS Jesus tells us to seek His kingdom above all else: Matt 6:33 33"But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added to you. NAS A person must seek with sincerity and truth otherwise God will not draw them to Him. 1 Cor 1:18-19 18For the word of the cross is to those who are perishing foolishness, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. 19For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, And the cleverness of the clever I will set aside." NAS John 6:60-65 60Many therefore of His disciples, when they heard this said, "This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?" 61But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, "Does this cause you to stumble? 62"What then if you should behold the Son of Man ascending where He was before? 63"It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life. 64"But there are some of you who do not believe." For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him. 65And He was saying, "For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me, unless it has been granted him from the Father." NAS We can not be with Christ in heaven unless we obey God. God sets the standard we must follow if we seek salvation. Only those who obey God are granted that reward. AO |
