AMPLIFIED 2015 | Psalm 139:17 ¶ How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! [Ps 40:5] |
Bible Question: I have seen translations that suggest God's thoughts TOWARD us, for us, are precious. Vs. His thoughts are precious for us. Any comments? |
Bible Answer: Joanne, Look at the context. Is this connected with the previous verse or passage, the following or both? The first 12 verses are about He know where we are. In verses 13-16 we see great verses about our life in out mother's womb (he knew us then). Verse 18 starts with the word "if." Verses 19-22 tlak about the enemies. Verses 23-24 are about God searching thoughts and the desire to be in the everlasting way. Based on the word "if" in verse 18, I would lean toward our thoughts of Him. I think verse 23 supports that to. v 16 Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written The days that were ordained for me, When as yet there was not one of them. v 17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! v 18 If I should count them, they would outnumber the sand. When I awake, I am still with You. Steve PS Thank you for the question. This Psalm thrilled my soul and I have goose bumps knowing that He has known about me since conception and me right know, I do want to be in the everlasting way (Pro 3:5-6). |
