Bible Note: Dear Peter, Sad to say, Samuel must have some similar problems, in spite of his closeness to Eli's situation. See 1 Samuel 8:1-4. However, the failure being Samuel's is only speculation on my part. How about something along these lines. God will not hear or speak to those who are... Proud (Eli -- lofty) Psalm 10:17 Self-willed (i.e., quick to assert our own law) (Hofni -- pugnacious) Psalm 66:18 Deceitful (Phinehas -- mouth of serpent) Malachi 2:8,13 Just a thought. :-) I'm sure you'll do much better! Regarding the 1 Samuel 3:3 (which I believe is the verse you had in mind): Remember that the lamp was in the outer court of the tabernacle. See the sketch here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Tabernakel_536x282.jpg One of their duties was to keep the lamp lit from evening until morning (Exo 27:20-21). So they must have been attending to that. Although I may be missing it, I don't see where it actually says they even slept in the inner court. Where do you see that? In Him, Doc |
