Subject: A Private Hot Line to God? |
Bible Note: Hi Radioman2, What does it mean to be filled with the Spirit? Are we filled with God? Or are we filled with the things of God; namely psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs? I don't believe that we can "contain" God, so I believe that we are filled with the spirit of God as shown by the psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs offered to Him. 1) Your author spoke of not desiring to quench the "workings" of the Holy Spirit. But I submit that the Scripture speaks of not quenching the Holy Spirit; and in my copy I have penciled in "holy spirit". God Himself will not and can not be quenched. It is His "workings", His holy spirit, His word, that should not be quenched. 2) I like your verses of comparison, but in my own personal study these are the verses that I decided to compare. Ephesians 5:20, "always GIVING THANKS FOR ALL THINGS in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the Father." Colossians 3:17, "And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, GIVING THANKS through Him, to God the Father." 3) When your verses are compared, what do you see as dwelling in you? Is it not the word? Please remember that I believe in the Person of the Holy Spirit, and also I believe that Christ indwells us; but I believe that the focus of these verses are the word rather than the Word, focusing on the spirit that has been given us.
