Bible Question: My first wife filed for divorce 28 years ago. I remarried lated that year to another woman who had not been married. Since then my first wife passed away. Am I free to be a deacon or a bishop/ pastor. I am currently ministering to Senior adults at a Southern Baptist church, on a voluntary basis. Where the scriptures does it say I am free to go into the ministry as a bishop/ pastor. I am looking for scripture proof that this possible. |
Bible Answer: DIM, You are forgiven, but must bear the consequences. Scripture - -1Co 7:15. If she was an unbeliever and since she divorced her you were not bound when you remarry. She needs to state she was not a believer, not you. I've seen men clain their exes weren't believers. -2Co 5:17. If you became a Christian after your divorce, you are a new creature, old things are passed away, including divorce. -1Ti 3:2. It says for and elder, "Husband of but one wife." Also see Tit 1:6. For a deacon, read 1Ti 3:12. There are various views on what Paul means in his pastoral letters, even within the SBC. -One wife for your life, even if she is dead. -One wife for her life.
