Bible Question: How are we called to deal with resentment in the "wise way" if we are to avoid the fate of the fool and the simple? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Mfahey, One application that we can use regarding resentment is in Luke 15:1-7.. Using Jesus as an example, we can see how He handles the resentment of the Pharasees, when they mutter things like "This man welcomes sinners and eats with them." A couple of years ago, I was with an Amish family traveling in buggy to church one summer Sunday evening, when a couple of young kids would come by and say very disrepectful things to my Amish friends due to the fact that they did not use automobiles for travel. Talk about resentment! I almost wanted to jump out and teach those kids a thing or two, but they thought it the wiser not to answer evil for evil, hatred for hatred. And in my flush of emotion to defend my friends, I was taught that there are much greater things, like setting an example, rather than to answer resentment with aggression. This has been one of the great lessons that I have learned in life thus far. Blessings to you, Makarios |
