AMPLIFIED 2015 | Job 38:2 "Who is this that darkens counsel [questioning my authority and wisdom] By words without knowledge? [Job 35:16] |
Bible Question:
Is 'words without knowledge' similar to (or relates to) the condemnation God makes in Job 42:7-8 KJV? "And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath. Therefore take unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job." |
Bible Answer: Greetings Thomas8! I support Doc's reply - the Lord was speaking to Job in Job 38:2. Who absurd it is to think that any human being could provide Almighty God with any criticism or answer that He does not already know! See Job 35:16 "So Job opens his mouth emptily; He multiplies words without knowledge." The "words without knowledge" means the following: when Job's speech challenges or demands to meet God on equal footing as in a court of law (see 31:35-37), this amounts to a rival claim to God's throne (see 40:10-14). Even Abraham feared to dare speak to God in a similar manner (Genesis 18:25-27), even though Abraham was acting as an intercessor for Lot. As for Job 42:7-8, the three friends of Job (Elihu is simply ignored) are criticized by the Lord because they had (even though in good faith) leveled false charges against him. The Lord actually calls Job "my servant", thus restoring him to his earlier prosperity and standing before God (see Job 1:8; 2:3). The Lord also called Moses "my servant" in Num. 12:8. It is of interest and importance that Job now becomes the intercessor for his friends (v. 8) before God. Blessings to you, Makarios |
