Bible Question: In Genesis 37:28 was it God's will that Joseph be sold into slavery? |
Bible Answer: Hi Socwork1, According to the Law, Exo 21:16 And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death. this act was unlawful, and as such, was sin. God does not desire men to do that which will bring them death: Ezekiel 18:31-32 Cast away all your transgressions from you by which you have transgressed in them, and make for yourselves a new heart and a new spirit; for why will you die, O house of Israel? (32) For I do not have delight in the death of him who dies, declares the Lord Jehovah. So turn and live. My guess is that God, knowing the sin which Joseph's brothers would soon commit, caused a Midianite caravan to be passing by at that opportune moment. At every turn where people sinned, they did not sin because God wanted them to, or because God could not accomplish His purpose without sin, because that puts God in the position of condoning sin, and that is not Biblical in the slightest. God hates sin. But God is able to cause the results of our actions to serve His purposes. I hope this helps! Love in Christ, Mark |
