Bible Question: I was just wondering what people in Old Testament times believed happened to them after they died, I can find very few references either to heaven or hell in the old testament......is there a reason for this? |
Bible Answer: I suspect the reality of entering God's presence upon physical death was a reality in the Old Testament. There was no debate or question about "heaven or hell;" it was a certainty. King David, upon hearing of the death of his infant son declares in 2 Sam 12:23, "I will go to him, but he will not return to me." Recall also that Elijah's call heavenward was witnessed by Elisha. (2 Kings 2:11) We would be wise to understand the reality of life as well - it is eternal . . . but WHERE will it be spent? Perhaps if we endeavored to truly grasp the horrific consequences of eternal life separated from God, we would be more passionate about the souls of those who don't know Him! Just some thoughts, I hope this helps. mommapbs |
