Bible Question: Will someone please help reconcile Job 1:22 and 2:10 with Job 9:22-24? All my many commentaries often quote 1:22 in commendation of Job, but never fully explain the verses in chapter 9, or explain why God rebuked Job in the latter chapters of the book if Job sinned not with His lips or charged God foolishly. |
Bible Answer: Greetings Baptistbred! Welcome to the forum! I think the answer to your question is so simple that we overlook it! Job 1:22 refers back ("in all this") to what Job said in 1:21. Job 2:10 refers back ("in all this") to what Job said in the first part of v. 10. These two statments of Job were theological sound. But, neither of these verses mean that he never sinned in anything that he ever said. As Job progresses in his discussions with his friends, he becomes more and more intense about defending himself. In these later statements, while sin may be too harsh of a word, Job definitely begins to speak of that which he does not know - and God calls him to account for it. I hope this helps!
