Bible Question:
Worship means to fall prostrate before one who has absolute rule over you. How could Job still worship God after all that happened? When do we take our focus off Him ... and look at our situation or elsewhere? -Why? Steve PS The other words we have for worship are because of a change in culture. Just as we have changed the original meaning for gentleman and gay, for example. |
Bible Answer: Worship There are six verbs in the Bible that are translated into English as "worship." One of the six means "to worship, prostrate oneself, bow down." The other five do not. Hebrew 1) sahah, "to worship, prostrate oneself, bow down." Greek 1) proskuneo, "to make obeisance, do reverence to." 2) sebomai, "to revere." 3) sebazomai, "to honor religiously." 4) latreuo, "to serve, to render religious service or homage." 5) eusebeo, "to act piously towards" (Vine's Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words, 1984, Thomas Nelson Publishers). --JVH0212 |
