Bible Question:
The question is as follows: Was Vashti asked to come wearing only her crown? The question arose b/c of the time line in which the book of Esther took place. Many kings during that time peroid liked to show off their queens, sometimes nude. Knowing that Xerxes was a heathen king, we ( in the group) wondered if he would have asked her, to show up in only the crown. |
Bible Answer: questioning Yes that is the inference here. As you said it was common practice for kings of this time frame to insist on such an action. It was almost a bragging right for a king to brag upon the beauty of his queen until someone called him and said prove it. Where upon a party was held and the queen was displayed in all her glory and little else. EdB |
