Bible Note: Dude4christ You absolutely right I was wrong but so are you. xxxx is called a half byte not a byte or a bit. xxxx xxxx is a byte. A half byte is made of up 4 binary positions (called bits)which cover the numbers from 0-15 a byte is 8 binary positions and covers 0 - 255. 0000 1111 is 0F or decimal 15 and 0001 0000 is 10 or decimal 16. 1111 1111 is FF or decimal 255 not hex 255. The point I was making is all computers use binary and they did before and after Y2K. While I use to work almost exclusively in machine language and hex, I haven’t done it for 10 years and I stand red faced that I made this basic of a mistake. EdB |
