NASB | Nehemiah 2:17 ¶ Then I said to them, "You see the bad situation we are in, that Jerusalem is desolate and its gates burned by fire. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem so that we will no longer be a reproach." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Nehemiah 2:17 ¶ Then I said to them, "You see the bad situation that we are in--how Jerusalem is desolate and lies in ruins and its gates have been burned with fire. Come, and let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, so that we will no longer be a disgrace." |
Bible Question: What is the significance to us today regarding the broken walls/hole in the walls? I see it referred to in pictures. (Beyond the obvious of having sin in our life) |
Bible Answer: God's day to you onenehemiahtwo, In this passage, Nehemiah saw what others saw - broken walls, not because of anyone there who sinned (most likely), but the sin of ansectors. Read 2 Chronicles, 2 Kings, Jeremiah and other books ... the people had sinned for a long time, so God had Jerusalem destroyed, including the walls and the Temple. There was no plan ... that is what Nehemiah had. The hole in the wall is found elsewhere (Eze 8:7, 12:5, 12:12). |
