Subject: I JUST WANT TO READ THE BIBLE. |
Bible Note: Megawati, no matter whatever stimulus prompted your declaration, it is always a good idea to read and study the Bible for oneself. Two thoughts come to mind: (!) So few do these days. The world is too much with us; the demands it makes on our time and energy are enormous; the lure and glitter of the TV and Internet steals our leisure time and militates against serious reading of all kinds, and that of course includes the Bible. (2) We should be thankful that in America we have an abundant availability of Bibles and the freedom still to purchase and read them, if not in public schools, at least in our homes and churches. In many countries in our time Bibles are unavailable if not forbidden. In the English-speaking countries many versions are available; in some countries, none. Any excuse that an American of average intelligence and reading ability could offer for not having at least a fair knowledge of the Bible would be a lame one..... Your desire to read the Bible is commendable. By all means read it for all it's worth! --Hank |
