NASB | Ezra 8:22 For I was ashamed to request from the king troops and horsemen to protect us from the enemy on the way, because we had said to the king, "The hand of our God is favorably disposed to all those who seek Him, but His power and His anger are against all those who forsake Him." |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | Ezra 8:22 For I was ashamed to request troops and horsemen from the king to protect us from the enemy along the way, because we had told the king, "The hand of our God is favorable toward all those who seek Him, but His power and His anger are against all those who abandon (turn away from) Him." |
Subject: Who is able to 'seek'? |
Bible Note: Disciplerami: how do you equate a favorable disposition with power? But we are mincing words here. Please keep in mind that there are significant differences of opinion between us . . . this being said, I'll take the "bait" and give you an answer. According to Romans 3:11 - no one seeks God. God seeks us. John 6:44 The question is WHO does God choose to draw? Those who seek Him? What of those who have nocognitive ability to do so? He answers that plainly in Romans 9:15, "I WILL HAVE MERCY ON WHOM I HAVE MERCY, AND I WILL HAVE COMPASSION ON WHOM I HAVE COMPASSION." Why would God say this if it was not needed? As for me, this is comforting for it relies upon the love AND justice of God to bestow His Grace upon those who have no congitive ability. He would not offer compassion and mercy unless it was needed! This is what I believe: in God's onmisicence, He knows our hearts. In His foreknowledge, He knows what our response will be to His will - that none perish (2 Peter 3:9) so the way I reckon the matter of "free will" "Whosoever will" are the "elect" of God, known and chosen before the foundation of the world. So, my perspective is that God knows who will respond to His invitation of love and He woos each one into a personal relationship. He has placed eternity in our hearts; (Ecc 3:11) He has made Himself known (Romans 1)and He knows what each individual's response will be. Therefore I believe that favor He gives to those who "seek Him" is consistent with His omnisicient sovereignty. mommapbs |
