Bible Question:
In the NASB - The Open Bible Expanded Edition in the Intoduction Info about the book of Esther, the survey of Esther says that the story of Esther fits between chapters 6 - 7 of Ezra. However, Ezra 2:2 includes Mordecai's name as one of those who go with Zerubbabel. Since, Mordecai was rather obscure before the events in Esther, what is going on here? Is this another Mordecai? Thanks |
Bible Answer: Yes, there is another Mordecai. MORDECAI (mawr' dih ci) Personal name meaning, “little man.” 1. Esther's cousin and the mastermind behind her rise to power and subsequent victory over the evil Haman. Haman, a descendant of the Amalekite king Agag, sought to destroy the Jewish race. Mordecai, a descendant of King Saul's family, led Esther to thwart the attempt, Haman was hanged on the gallows he had erected for Mordecai. See Esther. 2. A man who returned from Babylon to Jerusalem with Zerrubbabel (Ezra 2:2; Nehemiah 7:7). ___________________ Holman Bible Dictionary http://studylight.org/dic/hbd/ |
