Bible Question: In the book of Galatians Paul defended his apostleship, but what was his primary argument? |
Bible Answer: Hi, shael! Paul's primary argument was Faith--the believers were being mislead by false teachers and Paul confirming his position as a true Apostle of Christ develops the argument about Faith as he attests that our conduct as Christians is dependent of our Faith in Christ. Paul establishes that there is One Gospel (1:6-9); he talks about the apostleship (1:11 thru 2:14); he breaks down the Law and Faith (2:15 thru 3:14); he clarifies the purpose of the Law, and the Promise (3:15 thru 4:7); then he kicks in with the admonishions (4:8 thru 4:31). Finally he begins to instruct them on Faith--perseverence, spiritual battle, codependency, and life in the Spirit (5:1 thru 6:10). There is a final admonishion that focuses on the relevant issue: the Cross--it was only Christ who died for our sake, and this to free us in the Spirit and not to keep us in the slave-services of sin and human doctrines (6:11-17).
