Bible Question: when a xtian commits the same sin over again and keeps asking for forgiveness, does God keep forgiving that sin? |
Bible Answer: Greetings in Christ's Name NGOZI! Welcome to the forum. First of all, in your future posts, be SURE to respect the Name above all names and not substitute "x" for Christ! I think you already know the answer to your question. To even ask it suggests that you recognize what sin is. But now, what to do about it? "Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? May it never be!" Romans 6:15 Sin is like an addiction and it too can be overcome, but we can never defeat its hold over us without the Lord! We are forgiven by the GRACE of God, but we can not expect forgiveness without repentence! Without a sincere DESIRE to TURN AWAY from that sin, it will still reign in our lives. Throughout Scripture God tells us CHANGE the way we THINK and ACT. Repentence begins just like sin, in the mind. As the Holy Spirit convicts us of the presence of sin, we have an opportunity to choose what to do with it. Confession without the desire to CHANGE our thinking (which influences our actions and behaviors) is no more than "lip service." God is aware of the desires of our hearts - we may "honor" Him with our mouths by what we SAY, but the attitude of the heart is what really counts! We are called to live Holy lives. When we DESIRE to live to please God, He will enable us to do so! We can NEVER be Holy in our own strength! It is the power of Christ living in the believer that enables him/her to live a life that is pleasing to God. The choice to allow Christ or self to reign is up to each individual. Look at the posts that accompany verses from Romans 6 for more dicussion (the "n" will be in red). Also, you can use the search feature to look up references to repentence and forgiveness. God bless you on your quest to discover what is pleasing and honoring to Him! Mommapbs |
