Bible Question: what does the 3 meanings of LOVE mean in the old and new testimates. |
Bible Answer: Word study ... agapao (racham), phileo (ahab) eros (egeb) ... God's day to you, kkstone, and welsom to the SBF, In the New Testament there are only two types of love. The verbs are agapao and phileo. We think of agapao, or its feminine noun, agape, as God's love, unconditional love. That may be true, but it is related to phileo, which is brotherly love. Moreover, in John 12:43, we read "for they loved the approval of men rather than the approval of God" ... the word for love is agapao. Therefore, I think the view of agapao, is not as some experts think. I believe the equivalent, in the Hebrew for agapao is racham, and for phileo, it is ahab. There is several more Hebrew words translated love. One is egeb, which I believe is eros, in Greek, the third type of love, most think of. This is the erotic love. S |
