Bible Question:
lioneart question of the day, Acts chapter two tells us of the founding of thechurch.I find it to be one the most powerfull and inspiring sections of the bible. My question with Acts 2 being the focus is this, Do we have an Acts chapter 2 church today? Why or why not? Ps- All responses much appreciated, the more the better. In Christ, lionheart |
Bible Answer: Hello lionheart, That depends. Do you mean a church identical to what we see on the day of Pentecost, or do you mean one which has all things in common and is centering on the apostle's doctrine, pray, fellowship, and breaking of bread. To the former, I say no; to the latter, yes. There are some denominations and loosely-tied groups (for lack of a better phrase) which strive to meet in a primitive church fashion. Now when I say that, each person represented on this forum will say, "That's my group," when it isn't. I guess we need to investigate how primitive a group you envision. What do you see from Scripture? I see something like this: a. Plurality of leadership b. Men only in leadership c. Weekly Lord's Supper d. Expository preaching e. Baptism immediately following confession f. An active priesthood of believers--in worship, intercession, etc. Immediately, someone will misunderstand what I mean here. When I say "worship", I do not mean that one hour thing where we sing awhile and then hear a sermon. I mean people actively engaged in worship as led by the Holy Spirit (Think 1 Cor 14; everything decently and in order). How's that for a start? Steve |
