Bible Question: Do Christians and churches have any business borrowing money for any reason according to the bible? Is it true that only poor people are allowed to borrow money and only for the purpose of meeting their basic needs? |
Bible Answer: According to scripture, the church was set up to take care of itself. Giving of one's abundance to the church allows this to happen. When a believer is in need, the elders in the church are able to help that person. The goal of the church should always be God's glory and advancement of the good news of Jesus Christ and salvation. If we keep in mind that the main reason we give is in order for that goal to be achieved all over the world, it will make more sense to contribute. Believers who do not work should not eat, according to scripture. But, when there is a real need, it should be filled. III John 1: "Beloved, I wish above all that you may be in health and prosper." Even though Christ came to give us life more than abundant, there will be times that we need each other's help. Now, all of this leads to the answer to your question: Christians should not need to borrow! |
