Bible Question: Who wrote the gospel of John, during what time frame and what is the significance of the book? |
Bible Answer: Greetings Iquest, the book of John was written by John to prove conclusively that Jesus is the Son of God amd that all who believe in Him will have eternal life. John was written from a theologian point of view. My reference says that it was written after the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD but before John's exile to the island of Patmos. Therefore it was probably written about 85-90 AD. John presents Jesus as the Divine Son of God and he emphasizes the wisdom of Christ. There are 6 miracles in John that are not included in the other gospels as is the Upper Room Discourse (ch 14-17). The significant theme in John is that belief in Jesus is required for salvation. |
